How many workspaces can I create?
You can create as many PBworkspaces as you'd like! Create a workspace for all of your groups and organizations! If we discover people abusing the system (e.g., registering hundreds of workspaces), we might need to limit their usage, but the majority of PBworks users will be free to create and use as many workspaces as they will benefit from.
How many pages can a workspace have?
You can create as many pages as you need on your workspace; there is no internal limit in the system. However, as the page count grows, the harder it becomes for Administrators to manage the workspace, and the harder it becomes for your users to find relevant information. So if you're an Administrator, you may want to consider deleting older, obsolete pages from time to time.
Do you offer PBworks in other languages?
At this time, we provide support for the use of other languages' keyboards in your workspace's settings, but PBworks itself is not available in languages other than English.
See this page for tips on using other languages or characters from other languages in your workspace.
How do I choose an appropriate workspace category?
All workspaces provide the same basic functionality, including PBworks' ease-of-use and speed. The three different packages differ in terms of specific features that appeal to each group.
Individuals
Individuals, for example, get a basic workspace with straightforward access controls and a limited amount of storage. On the other hand, the product is free of charge, and free of ads.
Educators
Educators get a slightly different plan with features that individuals don't need, but are essential for teachers and schools. You can also choose this category if you are a non-profit or a library.
Businesses
Businesses get the most functionality, including increased storage and advanced access controls, but are required to pay for their service once they have finished trying out the product and are using it on a regular basis for their business.
No single plan is better than another; rather, the plans are designed to meet the unique needs of the different target audiences.
Whoops! I chose the wrong workspace category. How do I change it?
No problem - just click the "help" link at the top of your your workspace to contact PBworks Support and request a category change.
How much storage do workspaces come with?
The amount of storage available depends on the plan the workspace is using.
Free: 2GB of storage.
Classroom and Campus: 40 GB of storage
Professional and Professional Plus: Unlimited Storage
How do I rename my workspace?
We're sorry! The ability to rename a workspace does not currently exist. However, you are welcome to start another workspace at pbworks.com. Please keep in mind that workspace names are based on availability, and require using at least four characters (i.e., letters or numbers). Contact PBworks Support if you want to copy your existing workspace's page content to your new workspace.
How can I change which email address "owns" the workspace?
A workspace can only have one e-mail address assigned as its owner. If you'd like to transfer ownership to a different e-mail address, please contact our Support Team using the workspace's current owner e-mail address.
How should I set up my workspace security settings?
After you've chosen your workspace's name, one of your first steps will be to set up the workspace security. Your screen will look something like this:

Who can view this workspace?
Anyone
Choose this option if you want the workspace to be available for reading by anyone on the Internet. This also means that your workspace can be found by search engines and displayed on search results.
Only people I invite or approve
This options means that users must be invited or approved for access before they are allowed to see any content on your workspace. Your workspace will not be displayed in search engine results.
Who can edit this workspace?
Anyone with an account
Select this option if you want to allow anyone with a PBworks Account to have editing rights on your workspace page. They will be given Writer-level permissions on the workspace.
Only people I invite or approve
This option means that a workspace administrator must invite a user to the workspace before he/she will be able to edit your workspace's content.
Accept the PBworks Terms of Service
Before you can continue with your new workspace, please read our Terms of Service and make sure that you fully understand them.
Changing your Settings

Backups
Note: This feature is only enabled on premium workspaces.
If you're interested in this feature, but have questions about upgrading, please check out the Billing section of this manual.
PBworks takes data storage very seriously, and backups of your workspace are constantly made behind the scenes to prevent data loss in the event of a catastrophic system failure. We monitor our servers very closely 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 366 days a year (leap year!), so you can rest assured that your data is safe on PBworks.
However, you may still want to make a backup of your particular workspace. For technical reasons, our backups are never made available to the public, or our customers, for any reason. They are only accessible by PBwiki Inc., and only in the event of a problem with our system.
In order for you to make a backup of your own workspace, so that you can keep it and access it anytime you want, just follow these steps:
Making a Local Backup
- Click Settings in the upper right corner of the workspace. If you don't see the Settings link, then you don't sufficient privleges to make a backup of the workspace.

- Click Backup, on the left hand side.

- You'll see the backup button with three options.
- Include current versions of all pages
- This option, to get the current version of all pages of your workspace, is automatically enabled, and cannot be disabled.
- Include previous versions
- You can manually check the second option so that your back up includes all data from all previous versions of the page.
- Include files
- Checking the option to include files will include your uploaded files in the downloaded ZIP archive. Please note that this option will drastically increase the amount of time it takes to download the backup, depending on how big your uploaded files are.
Once you've checked the options you want, click the "Download Backup" button to start the download.
Backup Limitations
Currently, the backup system will only backup pages and files (if that option is checked) on the workspace. Comments, workspace settings, users, and user security settings are not included in this backup.
Restoring a workspace page from a Backup file
To recover from an accidental deletion, you can restore a page from a .ZIP Backup by following these steps:
- Open the .ZIP file.
- Open the "RAW" folder.
- Find the page that you'd like to restore and open the text file.
- Select and copy all text.
- Create a new workspace page.
- Click on the "Source" button to access the workspace's source code.
- Paste the "RAW" page content.
- Exit the "Source" view to confirm that you copied and pasted everything.
- Click on the "Save" button to complete the page restoration.
Can I put my workspace on a domain of my own?
Premium workspace users have the option to add custom domains to their workspace. Please check out the Custom Domains section for more information.
How do I delete my workspace?
Deleting your workspace is a serious matter, and so make sure you understand all of the consequences of deleting your workspace:
- All of your pages and files will be deleted permenantly
- All of your users will lose access to the page immediately
- Your workspace name is retired permanently and cannot be used again
This is a hard-limit in our system. If you create a workspace, you're actually creating a subdomain of PBworks.com, and nobody, including yourself, can create that same workspace name again.
-
In Project Edition, this limitation is lifted, and you can still create new workspaces with the same title. However, that's just the workspace title, and not the URL for the workspace. The URL for any deleted workspace is permanently retired and cannot be used again.
If you still want to delete your workspace, follow these instructions:
- Click "Settings" in the upper right corner. If you don't see the "Settings" link, this means you are not logged in as the owner, and cannot delete the workspace.

- Click Delete... on the left hand side.

- Fill out the form, and click the "Start deletion process" button.

- You'll receive an email with a link you must click. Click the link indicated inside this email.

- On the page that link brings you to, click the "here" link to delete your workspace.
